    Thankyou From Patty and Pat

This past July marked the 25th anniversary of Sunnyside Market. We are so proud of this little food hub that's been nourishing our community for 25 years. Join us for a little walk down memory lane...

Scott Clements and Linda Grandinetti started Sunnyside Market in 1997.  Their vision from the start was to create a natural food store that nourished their community and supported small organic family farms and local producers.

Pat and I discovered Sunnyside Market that same year when we returned to Calgary from living in Berkeley, California. We were thrilled the first time we walked into the store as it reminded us of Berkeley Natural Foods and the local food movement we were immersed in living in Northern California.

As often happens at Sunnyside Market to this day, as frequent shoppers we became well acquainted with previous owners Scott and Linda. In 2005, when they mentioned they were selling Sunnyside, Pat and I decided to leave the corporate world and take the plunge to become green grocers.

We've owned the store now for 17 years, honouring the initial vision set out by Scott and Linda. We have so much to be proud of — we’ve continued to build the store’s relationships with local Alberta & BC farmers, producers & suppliers, fostering deep connections and friendships with many of these fine folks over the years. In 2013, we expanded the store with our dear friends Michal and Aviv from Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and together we created a destination food hub that provides delicious and nourishing food to people from all over Calgary.

And now a new store chapter begins. It is with mixed emotions that Pat and I announce that it's time for us to move on from Sunnyside Market. We both turn 60 this year and have other interests and pursuits that we want to explore.

New owners Sagar Kothiya and Pruth Chavada are excited to take over the reins and to continue with the vision created by Scott, Linda , Pat and myself. As well, the bakery & deli will remain a part of Sunnyside Natural Market and continue to stock Sidewalk Citizen Bakery bread and baked goods. You'll see Pat and I around for a while as we work closely with Sagar and Pruth to ensure a smooth transition.

Thank you for your support over the past 25 years and for your continued support for the years to come. Our lives are filled with wonderful people we've met through Sunnyside, be it customers, people we've worked with, farmers and an array of suppliers. The natural food market place is rapidly changing and it's up to all of us to continue to support locally owned small businesses. We look forward to seeing you around the neighbourhood and bumping into you when we're shopping at Sunnyside.

    With much gratitude,

    Patty and Pat
